The Eden
Project was established as one of the landmark
Millennium projects in the UK to mark the
year 2000 and is structured as an educational
charitable trust. The project is still
growing.
The 50 metre
deep crater has become home to thousands
of important and beautiful plants. Three
of the world's climate zones ("Biomes")
have been chosen for interpretation: The
Humid Tropics (Rainforests and Tropical
Islands) and the Warm Temperate regions
(the Mediterranean, South Africa & California)
are contained within the two giant conservatories
that have already captured the public imagination.
During the
summer months there are night time open-air
concerts which include many well known artistes.
The ticket for concerts usually entitles entry
to the project during the day of the concert
or the following day.
The
best time to visit is either first thing at
10am when it opens (9.30am in the Summer) or
after 2pm. The quietest days tend to be towards
the end of the week so that is worth remembering
too!
